드라마로 시작된 한류 열풍이 '케이팝'으로 이어지면서 여수엑스포까지 뜨겁게 달구고 있어요. 원더걸스，다이나믹듀오 등이 출연한 케이팝 콘서트는 개막 첫날부터 박람회장을 후끈 달아오르게 했거든요. 주말에는 슈퍼주니어, 샤이니, 비스트, 2PM, 박재범 등 가수들이 펼치는 콘서트가 펼쳐질 거예요.

(K-pop famous to the world triggered by the Korean soap operas is heating up the atmosphere of the Yeosu Expo. On the opening day the K-pop concert where Wonder Girls, Dynamic Dyuo and other stars showed up proved it. What is more, singers such as Super Junior, Shiny, Beast, 2PM, Jay Park and so on are scheduled to be on the stage every weekend.)

 

그런데 케이팝의 화려한 퍼포먼스가 펼쳐지는 무대가 어디인지 아세요? 바로 여수엑스포가 세계인을 위해 치밀하게 만들어 놓은 '미학적 산물' 4대 특화시설 중 하나인 빅오입니다. 세계엑스포 사상 최초의 바다 위 전시장 빅오, 기대되지 않으세요?

(Then do you know where the big stage is? Correct!!! It's the Big-O, it's one of the big 4 specialization facilities where the Yeosu Expo Organization Committee closely prepared for foreigners. The Big-O is the first exhibition ground placed on the sea through the World Expo history. Don't you fully expect to see it?)

 

여수 밤바다를 수놓는 환상의 해상 무대, <빅오>

("Fantastic marine stage embroidering the night sea of Yeosu, Big-O")

빅오(Big-O)는 '거대한 바다(Big Ocean)'라는 뜻의 해상 무대로, 바다 한가운데에는 거대한 원형 조형물 '디오(The O)'가 솟아 있어요. 날마다 오후 2시가 되면 해상 쇼가 펼쳐지고, 오후 7시 30분에는 다채로운 수상 공연과 멀티미디어 쇼가 이어지지요.

(The Big-O is a marine stage whose meaning is 'Big Ocean' and the huge circular sculpture, 'The O', stands in the middle of the ocean. There are marine shows at 2:00 p.m. and various aquatic shows and multi-media shows at 7:30 every day.)

 

특히 오후 9시 30분부터 진행되는 빅오 쇼는 여수엑스포의 백미예요. 영화 < ET >의 주제곡에 따라 춤추는 분수 쇼를 시작으로 디오(The O)에 만들어진 워터스크린의 영상과 레이저를 이용한 홀로그램 입체 영상이 연출되면, 여기저기에서 사람들의 탄성이 터져 나오지요.

(Especially, the best part of the Yeosu Expo shows is 'the Big-O show' at 9:30p.m. Starting with the fountain show dancing to 'The theme song of the movie ET', watching the hologram stereovision using the videos and laser on the water-screen, the audience let out cries of wonder.)

 

빅오 쇼는 한국과 미국, 프랑스의 연출자들과 함께 만든 것인데요. 한국의 열정과 프랑스의 섬세함, 미국의 정밀함이 어우러져 시너지 효과를 크게 냈대요. 인류가 하나 되는 엑스포답지요. 빅오 쇼만 보셔도, CNN 등 세계적인 매체가 '여행지 1순위'로 여수엑스포를 선정한 까닭을 알게 되실 것입니다. 

(The Big-O show was produced by Korean, American and French producers. The combination of the passion of Korea, the sensitivity of France and the accuracy of USA created amazing synergy effects. This is how the Expo makes the world one in humanity. If you watch the Big-O show, you'll realize the reason why global mass-medias like CNN chose Yeosu Expo for the 'No.1 place to travel'.)

 

 

유비쿼터스 엑스포의 진면목, <엑스포디지털갤러리>

("All about what is ubiquitous, Expo Digital Gallery")

박람회장에 들어서면 하늘에 수놓은 거대한 바다가 우리를 사로잡지요. 여수엑스포를 유비쿼터스 엑스포라고 하는데, 맞아요. 스마트폰을 통해 원스톱으로 공연 일정을 볼 수 있고 전시관에서 가상 체험도 즐길 수 있거든요. 특히 엑스포디지털갤러리에 가시면, 유비쿼터스 엑스포를 실감하실 거예요.

(On the Exhibition ground, we are attracted by the magnificent ocean in the sky. We call the Yeosu Expo a ubiquitous Expo. Doesn't it make sense? You can see the schedules and enjoy virtual experiences through your smart phone. Especially if you go to the Expo Digital Gallery, you must be impressed with the ubiquitous Expo.)

 

갤러리에 들어서면 귀여운 꽃게와 해파리가 돌아다니고, 거대한 혹등고래가 헤엄을 치고 있어요. 2400개의 LED조각이 만들어 내는 영상은 '살아있는 바다, 숨 쉬는 연안'이라는 2012 여수 엑스포의 주제를 그대로 보여 주고 있지요. 그런데 그 중에서도 특히 눈길을 사로잡는 것이 '꿈의 고래'입니다.

(On entering the gallery, you can see the cute blue crabs and jellyfish floating in the glass tubes while the large humpback whales are swimming. The view shown by 2,400 pieces of LED reflects the 2012 Yeosu Expo theme; "The Living Ocean and Coast." Most of all, the most attractive thing is "A dreaming whale.")

 

스마트폰으로 찍은 자신의 사진을 클릭해 보세요. 그러면 정말 꿈같은 일이 벌여져요. 자기 얼굴이 바로 고래에 나타나거든요. '꿈의 고래'라고 이름 붙인 까닭이 실감날 거예요. 그런데 사진을 보내면 보낼수록 고래는 더 커지거든요. 그래서 사진 전송을 '고래밥'을 주는 거라고 한대요. 대단하죠?

(Click your pictures taken with your smart phone. Then a dreamlike happening really occurs. What I mean is that your face appears on the surface of the whale immediately. That is why we call it "A dreaming whale." Moreover, the more you send photos, the bigger the whale is. So it is said sending photos is "giving food to the whale." It's amazing, isn't it?)

 

 

살아 있는 바다가 생명을 품은 곳, <아쿠아리움>

("The living sea holding life in its bosom, Aquarium")

엑스포 최고의 인기관, 아쿠아리움에 들어가면 가장 눈에 띄는 것이 바로 영상관이에요. 귀여운 물고기 한 마리가 위험한 곳으로 돌진하면서 위험에 빠진 친구를 구한다는 내용인데, 4D라서 현장감이 넘치죠. 보고 있으면 마치 자신이 상어에게 잡아먹힐 것 같은 기분이 들어 아슬아슬하다니까요.

(When you are in the aquarium, the best popular exhibition hall in the Expo, one of the most outstanding things is the theater. It shows the story that a cute fish rushing in the dangerous place, saves his friend in danger. It is very realistic because it is 4D. Watching this video, there were butterflies in my heart because it seemed to be eaten by a shark.)

 

아쿠아리움에는 해룡, 바이칼 물범, 바다사자, 바다표범 등 온갖 해양 생물이 있어요. 5대양에 풍덩 빠진 것 같아요. 그런데 아쿠아리움의 인기몰이는 재롱둥이인 참물범과, 국내 최초로 들여온 러시아의 흰돌고래 '벨루가'가 하지요. 벨루가는 머리 전체가 동그래서 정말 귀엽고 깜찍해요.

(The Aquarium has various kinds of marine lives; sea serpents, Baikal seals, sea lions, seals and so on. It seems to be in the Five Oceans at the same time. But the most popular marine life is harbor seals doing cute things and white dolphins, belugas brought from Russia into Korea for the first time. Belugas's whole head is round so it is very cute and sweet.)

 

오션 라이프로 가 보면, 가로 16m, 세로 6m의 대형수조 '딥 블루 씨'가 거기 있어요. 잠수부들이 물고기와 함께 돌아다니며 바다거북을 데리고 노는 게 아주 신기하지요. 게다가 '딥 블루 씨' 옆에 있는 '대형 엔쵸비 수조'에서 수만 마리의 정어리 떼가 군무를 보여주는데, 정말 환상적이에요.

(If you go to The Ocean Life, there is a large water tank called 'Deep Blue Sea' which is sixteen meters long and six meters high. It is surprising that divers get along with fishes and play with sea turtles. Moreover, tens of thousands of sardines in the 'Large Anchovy Tank' next to 'Deep Blue Sea' show us group dance. It creates fantastic atmosphere.)

 

 

친환경 여수엑스포의 키워드, <스카이타워>

("The keyword of Eco-friendly Yeosu Expo, Sky Tower")

혹시 기억하세요, 5월 11일 여수엑스포의 개막을 선언할 때 박람회장에 울려 퍼지던 소리? 그게 바로 스카이타워에서 나온 소리에요. 웅장한 그 뱃고동 소리와 함께 개막이 선언되면서, 여수는 세계인의 주목을 받게 되었죠. 우리가 "2012년, 여수가 대한민국이다"고 하는 까닭이 여기에 있어요.

(Do you remember the sound resonated throughout the fairground when the opening was declared? The sound that came from the Sky Tower. Declaring the opening with this majestic boat horn, Yeosu became the center of worldwide attention. That's why we say "In 2012, Yeosu is Korea!")

 

스카이타워는 버려진 시멘트 저장고인 사일로를 활용하여, 파이프오르간으로 재탄생한 거예요. 여수엑스포를 친환경 박람회라 하는데, 그래요, 스카이타워는 20세기의 낡은 유물로 21세기의 새로운 시대를 열어가는 상징물로 손색이 없지요. 파리에 에펠탑이 있다면 여수에는 스카이타워가 있어요.

(The Sky Tower is an abandoned cement storeroom(silo) revived as a pipe organ. It is safe to say that Sky Tower is the symbol of opening the new world in the 21st century from the old relic of the 20th century. If there is the Eiffel Tower in  Paris, there is the Sky Tower in Yeosu.)

 

뱃고동 소리를 내는 이 거대한 오르간의 정식 명칭은 복스 마리스(Vox maris), 라틴어로 '바다의 소리'란 뜻이래요. 독일에서 제작되었으나 오르간을 설계한 이는 한국인이에요. 하루 종일 30분 간격으로 아름다운 선율을 들려주는데, 관람객의 신청곡도 받는다니, '여수 밤바다'를 청해 보세요.

(This enormous organ's formal name is Vox Maris which means 'Sound of Ocean' in Latin. Though it was made in Germany, its designer is Korean. It plays beautiful melodies every 30 minutes; it also plays songs requested by the audience. How about requesting Busker Busker's 'Sea of Night in Yeosu'?)

여수엑스포 관람을 마치고, 오동도 산책은 필수 코스예요. 오동도에서 바라보는 박람회장은 버스커 버스커가 노래한 <여수 밤바다>를 느끼기에 제격이거든요. 더욱이 봄이 끝나고 여름이 시작되는 이 무렵의 밤바다는 낭만이 있고 향기가 있거든요. 거기에 '꿈의 엑스포'까지 있으니 말해 더 뭐하겠어요.

(After sightseeing Yeosu Expo ground, taking a walk in Odongdo is essential course. The view of the Expo ground seen from Odongdo is good to feel the impression of the song 'Sea of Night in Yeosu' sung by Busker Busker. In addition, there are romances and fragrance in the night sea at this time of the year. What is more, we don't have to say more because there is dreams of the Expo.)
